PROTECT UKRAINE & EUROPE |
On April 6, 2016, the Dutch people expressed their democratic will by voting "no" (61 %) in the referendum on the association agreement between Ukraine and the EU. Participation in this democratic election exceeded the turnout for the 1999 European elections in the Netherlands. |
The stemtegen.eu campaign is still relevant, since it aimed to protect peace through compliance with basic human rights, as enshrined in various European treaties. Consequently all publications regarding Ukraine's EU integration publications in Dutch press have been translated into English and can be found on this webpage. |
Sadly, all findings in the report "Treason to Law," such as discrimination based on citizenship through violation of the Treaty of the European Union by member state Romania, are still relevant. This report clearly and concisely explains why the Netherlands should not have ratified the association agreement. In most cases, other language versions exist as well. Articles may be used if a reference is made to this website or the foundation European Language Rights. |
The aim of the “Vote No” stemtegen.eu campaign was to protect minorities in Ukraine and the EU from forced assimilation and discrimination in order to prevent war. Taking human rights treaties seriously protects Europe and Ukraine. Ukraine’s discriminatory and racist language law is a shame for the EU. It jeopardizes European unity by denying the character of European identity and humanity, violating the principle of non-discrimination that lies at the heart of European citizenship and identity. |
Human rights treaties save lives in Ukraine, because they were created to protect Europe against war by establishing peacekeeping standards. The road to European integration has rules. Everyone will understand that traffic rules save lives, therefore it is crystal clear that nobody has the right to drive without a driver's license, disobey traffic lights and signs, ignore basic legal obligations, such as having car insurance. Sadly in this analogy Ukraine is quite a reckless driver on the road of European integration, because it systematically does not comply with the rules of EU membership. |

On page 2 of the open letter, which has been sent by the foundation to the President of Ukraine lists all the treaties by which Ukraine is bound to protect its population. No one has the right to deviate from these life-saving laws. After a century of massive human rights violations in Europe, including World Wars I and II, the Cold War (Budapest in 1956, Cuba in 1962, Prague, etc.), and the civil war in Yugoslavia (Srebrenica 1995), peace is protected by treaties that forbid discrimination. |
By immediately restoring basic civil and human rights EU candidate member Ukraine can directly make a credible contribution to peace and simultaneously show its commitment to European Values. No financial or military support is needed, the only thing needed is political will. Below, you will find our publications in the Dutch press translated into English in chronological order. In these publications we do not hesitate to formulate constructive criticism towards the EU integration of Ukraine ELR 21-02-2025 |

As Europeans, we cherish the collective memory that everyone should be treated equally. |
In the European multilingual and multiethnic context, language discrimination is a significant basis for excluding ethnic groups from social and political rights, unlike in the almost monolingual USA, where skin color is probably a more relevant factor of discrimination. Therefore, it is morally unacceptable to support Ukraine without demanding the Ukrainian government to stop discriminating immediately. |

PEACE TREATIES SAVE LIVES IN UKRAINE & PROTECT UKRAINE. |
The Strasbourg Treaty, the European Charter of Regional or Minority Languages, the European Convention on Human Rights, and the Treaty on Combating Racism, among others, protect Europeans from ethnic cleansing. These treaties are the foundation for peace and prosperity through safety and stability. Ukraine has obligations to peace and stability too, and should comply with these standards to protect Europe. |
